Once inside the fjord arrive if ice conditions permit, at the foot of large ice constitutes Parry Glacier. 126 Almirantazgo fjord was entirely glaciated during the Last Glacial Maximum. It became ice-free either 127 after advance E (15,500–11,700 cal yr BP; McCulloch et al., 2005) or about 3000 years earlier, i.e. during After 12,300 cal yr BP, most glaciers had retreated to land-locked locations and by 9800 cal yr BP, Almirantazgo fjord was a predominantly marine fjord environment with oceanographic conditions resembling the present-day setting. Almirantazgo Fjord (Spanish: Fiordo Almirantazgo), also known as Almirantazgo Sound (Spanish: Seno Almirantazgo) or Admiralty Sound, is a Chilean fjord located in the far south of the country at (54°19′S 69°30′W). The fjord cuts deeply into the west coast of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, extending southeastwards from the Whiteside Day 3: Parry Fjord .

In this study we use data collected during an intensive oceanographic cruise along the Magellan Strait into the Almirantazgo Fjord in southern Patagonia to evaluate how different sources of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and recycling may impact particulate organic carbon (POC) δ 13 C and influence the nutrients and carbonate system spatial distribution. As a result, the surface waters of Almirantazgo fjord are slightly brackish (<30 PSU) and flow towards the Northwest (Valdenegro and Silva, 2003). Almirantazgo fjord sediments record CDI glacier variability during the last 14,300 years.

Cordillera Darwin: West of Ushuaia, braced between the Almirantazgo Fjord and the Beagle Channel, Cordillera Darwin is only accessible by boat. It is wild, rugged, battered by the elements and criss-crossed by Fjords that stream from an impressive 2,000 square kilometre ice cap.
At Ainsworth Bay you can see the retreating Marinelli Glacier and watch elephant seals on the beaches. eastern part of the Almirantazgo Fjord, two major calving glaciers are located, the Marinelli and Parry Glaciers, which are part of the Darwin Mountain Range Ice Field (Figure 1). This transect is also characterized by the contribution of two major freshwater sources, a small river (<20 m3 s 1), the Bachelor Marinelli Glacier. Stretching northward on the far side of the vast Alberto de Agostini National Park and not directly visible from the Beagle Channel, the popular Marinelli Glacier feeds into the deep Almirantazgo Fjord off of the Strait of Magellan.
